Hang on… it’s New Year’s Eve again? Wasn’t last New Year’s Eve only a few weeks ago? We’re kidding – we know NYE only comes once a year but it feels as though the years keep getting shorter and shorter! Maybe it’s because our 2017 calendar was filled with so many incredible events and celebrations, or maybe it’s because we’ve been indulging in too many delicious cocktails. Either way, as 2017 draws to a close, we have no doubt you’ll be ringing in the new year in style, and that means throwing an unforgettable NYE party. So without further ado, here are 5 delicious cocktail recipes to take your NYE party or event to the next level.
1. BLUEBERRY GIN BLASTER
You can never go wrong with gin and berries – especially when mixed together to make the ultimate NYE party refresher.
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 1)
¼ cup Gin
½ lemon (juiced)
¼ cup sugar syrup
2tbsp St Germaine
¼ cup blueberry puree (1/2 cup frozen blueberries mixed with 4tbsp of water)
1/3 cup soda water
STEPS
- Mix the Gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup and St Germaine.
- Pour into a tall glass and add the soda water.
- Slowly drizzle blueberry puree into the glass.
- Serve with ice (optional).
2. SILVER SANGRIA
Sangria is the ultimate party drink yet rather than red wine, this silver sangria recipe calls for a dry white wine and delicious gin. Yes, please!
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 13)
1 cup Gin
750mL bottle dry white wine
½ cup white grape juice
½ cup sugar
½ cup grapes (seedless and sliced)
1 apple (green or red, sliced)
2 cups ginger beer (or soda water)
STEPS
- Dissolve the sugar in the white wine, gin and grape juice in a large pitcher.
- Add grapes and apple slices and chill overnight.
- Add ice and top up with ginger beer or soda water before serving.
3. CHAMPAGNE MARGARITAS
Give the classic margarita a festive boost with the addition of your favourite bottle of bubbly.
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 6)
½ cup fresh lime juice
1 cup tequila
½ cup orange liqueur
750mL bottle of champagne
Lime wedges and salt for rim
STEPS
- Combine all the ingredients in a large pitcher and stir well.
- Run lime wedges around the rim of the champagne flutes and dip the rims in salt.
- Pour the margarita mix into the champagne flutes and garnish with lime wedges.
4. MIDORI LEMON BALL
This cocktail is sweet, sassy and fruity. It’s also really easy to whip up, which is always a bonus!
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 1)
¼ cup Midori Melon Liqueur
2tbsp Citrus Vodka
1tbsp Elderflower Liqueur
½ lemon (juiced)
Garnish: ¼ cup sugar for rimming and a melon ball
STEPS
- Rim a chilled cocktail glass with sugar.
- Pour all liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker and add ice.
- Shake well and strain into the prepared glass.
- Garnish with a melon ball on a toothpick.
5. MIMOSA FLOAT
Your guests will love this sweet and colourful cocktail. It can even be served as a dessert – we call that a win-win.
INGREDIENTS (SERVES 4)
¼ cup melted white chocolate
Rainbow sprinkles (e.g. 100s & 1000s)
Rainbow sherbet
750mL bottle of champagne
Vanilla ice-cream (optional)
STEPS
- Pour the melted white chocolate into a small dish. In another small dish, pour a handle of rainbow sprinkles.
- Dip the champagne glass rim into the melted white chocolate and then into the sprinkles.
- Add 1 to 2 scoops of sherbet to each champagne flute. Top with champagne and a scoop of ice-cream (optional).
- Serve immediately.
