DIY events are a great way of creating a celebration that is unique to you and reflects your individual tastes. Whether you are a whiz with a hot glue gun, or you have enlisted the services of an incredible styling team, the possibilities are endless when you have the right space. We have curated a list of six alternative DIY venues that allow you to build your dream event from the ground up.
NEWSTEAD STUDIOS
With its prime location just 4km’s from Brisbane CBD, Newstead Studios is ideal for DIY Corporate Functions and Private Events. The building’s contemporary design fills the room with natural lighting and can host up to 100 people in a cocktail setting. Carrie and Jay recently held their wedding at Newstead Studios enlisting White+White Weddings and Events to transform the space with the help of Bouquet Boutique, AVIdeas and Hampton Event Hire. The greenery installations added colour to the space, while the classic timber tables and mahogany tiffany chairs helped create a homely dining atmosphere. While Newstead Studios is a stunning space to tie the knot, it is also commonly utilised as a space for exhibitions, product launches and corporate cocktail evenings.
BROOKFIELD HALL
Hiring a hall is a cost-effective way of sourcing a venue and allowing more room in the budget for styling. Brookfield Hall offers country charm and endless possibilities. Celebrations by Alysia demonstrated how versatile the space can be by transforming the modest country hall into a romantic setting with white draping from the high ceilings and floral arrangements along the tables.
The space also features a built-in stage (perfect for a live band) and fully functioning kitchenette. With plenty of beautiful photo opportunities close by, Brookfield Hall is a great option for brides and grooms wanting to add their own touch to their day or for birthday parties, baby showers or other special events.
LOYAL HOPE
Bring the James Street precinct allure to your DIY event by hosting your celebration at Loyal Hope. This restored hall is now commonly used as an event space for cocktail events, workshops and presentations. While it offers cocktail furniture, the space can be customised to suit your needs with its four-metre-high ceilings and polished timber floorboards. You will also have access to an onsite manager who can assist in ensuring your event runs smoothly.
ARDEENA
Hidden away in the Gold Coast Hinterlands, 1100 feet above sea level is the secluded but breathtaking Ardeena. Offering both indoor and outdoor reception spaces as well as ceremony locations only limited by your imagination, Ardeena is ideal for DIY weddings and special events. Enjoy a canape style reception on the lawn, equipped with lawn games and a tipi for comfort by Gold Coast Tipi Hire. Or bring your own styling to the indoor function space to transform the venue into your own.
SAMSONVALE HALL
Samsonvale Hall located in Mount Samson is another fantastic option for DIY events. The venue offers a tranquil setting for up to 140 guests. The hall is equipped with a bar, kitchen, stage and fairy lights that wrap around the exposed timber beams in the ceiling, but the rest is up to you and your imagination.
WESLEY HOUSE
This boutique venue is one of Brisbane’s hidden secrets. Wesley House features a rooftop overlooking the city skyline for up to 100 people and an indoor function room. The venue is versatile enough to be transformed from corporate breakfast functions to themed private events. Wesley House is a space not to be missed for any event host looking for a multipurpose space in the heart of the CBD.
