At the start of each year, it is tradition for the team to create our array of homemade preserves in preparation for the year ahead. One Wine & Dine’m recipe in particular that receives a lot of attention is our Pear Relish, so we decided to share our secret. This delicious staple is perfect on all types of vegetables and can be found accompanying our roast pork and cheese platters.

Wine & Dine’m Spiced Pear Relish


1 onion, finely chopped

1 inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated

175ml raspberry or cider vinegar

140g caster sugar

2 cloves garlic, sliced

½ tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground coriander

½ tsp ground allspice

1 dried red chilli, crumbled, seeds removed if preferred

4 pears, cored, cubed, peel left on


Combine all ingredients (except the pear) in a non-reactive saucepan. Add a large pinch of salt. Bring slowly to a simmer, constantly stirring to ensure the sugar dissolves. Add the pear and continue to cook until the mixture has the consistency of thick jam.
